dc.description | This item includes a segment of an instructor interview in a Writing Intensive course in Geography at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The interview was conducted in 2015, and in this clip the interviewee is responding to the question 'What motivated you to design writing assignments with a place-based component?'
dc.description.abstract | Brief excerpt from interview: I have two primary motivations. The first one is I always think that it's important to connect with the place that we're and the place where the students are living and the place that we collectively call home. And second I think it's an effective way to have students really apply some of the concepts and themes and theories that we're learning in class to everyday experience... [Students should be keeping] one eye on the local and one eye on the global and then connecting those two.
