Abstract
In this study, the process of creating Virtual Reality (VR) environments is described. Following an exploratory approach, six senior VR developers are interviewed, interview data is analyzed guided by VR environment characteristics extracted from the literature, and a process model is synthesized which guides how different types of VR environments including single-user VR applications, multi-user VR applications, and Metaverse-platforms-based VR environments can be created. Then, reflecting on two real-world cases, the usability of the process model in practice is demonstrated. This study contributes to the IS literature by systematically describing the VR creation workflow.
