Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences 2025

Permanent URI for this community

We are delighted to present the proceedings of the 58th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). With an acceptance rate of 48.48%, we are proud to include 736 peer-reviewed papers in our 2025 edition, showcasing a broad spectrum of research across multiple domains of system sciences.

This year, the following HICSS research tracks have garnered considerable attention, demonstrating the thriving diversity of our academic community:

  • Organizational Systems and Technology (225 submissions)
  • Decision Analytics and Service Sciences (206 submissions)
  • Internet and the Digital Economy (190 submissions)
  • Collaboration Systems and Technologies (166 submissions)
  • Digital and Social Media (144 submissions)
  • Information Technology in Healthcare (124 submissions)

In response to increasing global concerns about the impacts of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on marginalized populations, we continue with the invited track on “IT, Social Justice, and Marginalized Contexts” for the second consecutive year. This track, with 95 submissions, emphasizes research aimed at reducing the risks of perpetuating societal biases and stereotypes through technology and digital applications, ensuring a future where technological advancements are inclusive and equitable.

The conference spans over 7,500 pages and comprehensively covers the theoretical, conceptual, and practical aspects of ICT applications. It emphasizes methodologies, development, and evaluation focused on a wide spectrum of research issues related to digital transformation aimed at enhancing human activities, particularly in business and societal contexts.

Returning to the Big Island of Hawaii, the host location for our annual event, HICSS has welcomed over 1,200 scientists to the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Their published research papers are enhanced by a series of symposia, workshops, and tutorials exploring cutting-edge topics such as responsible AI, data analytics and governance, quantum computing, future of work, information security and privacy, and the integration of ICT in healthcare.

This year’s proceedings also spotlight trend-setting research pillars observed in the workshops, symposia, and tutorials, reflecting the current trajectory of scientific inquiry into the next wave of digital transformation. These focus areas are critical as we navigate the evolving landscape of digital technologies and their impact on society.

With the future in mind, this year’s keynotes, from innovators at leading organizations like OpenAI and Meta, explore the “intelligence horizon” in discussing how today’s rapid advancements in AI are propelling us toward the realization of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and reshaping the global hardware industrial base towards collaborative innovation ecosystems within the next decade.

With an eye toward the future, this year’s keynotes from innovators at leading organizations like OpenAI and Meta delved into the "intelligence horizon." They discussed how today's rapid advancements in AI are driving us toward the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and transforming the global hardware industrial base into collaborative innovation ecosystems over the next decade.

We extend our gratitude to the HICSS community for their contributions:

  • 2,218 authors of 736 research papers
  • 2,571 reviewers
  • 513 minitrack chairs
  • 22 track chairs
  • Sponsors including the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Shidler College of Business, the National Security Agency, the Association for Information Systems, and MyEducator

As you engage with the papers included in this year’s proceedings, we encourage you to cite and build upon this research in your scholarly work. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the global research community to further the mission of HICSS, providing a venue where innovative ideas converge and scientific dialogue flourishes.
