Abstract
Description
Genre: Legend/Oral history. Title: Methi Liru1. Wora Ngangene (b. 1940) is a resident of kampong Kaju Keri and was recorded in the home of Pidu (Ebbe), in earby Mata Mere, in the morning 19 Feb 2014. This morning's set of recordings were the only ones ever done with a Shure 58 microphone. The recordings are not loud enough, due to low rec level settings to reduce the background noise and the subject's soft voice, and at times unclear speech. Wora is a relative of the healer-sorcerer Methi Liru (c. 1885-1974), who was the topic of three recordings. This recording tells of Methi's supernatural capabilities and her spirit helpers. This story is also covered in a recording with Wora's niece (MM). The two other short tales, MethiLiru2 and MethiLiru3, gives some examples of what Methi did in her life as a sorcerer-healer ('pisa', 'pisa molo'. BI. 'dukun', 'dukun sakti/hebat'). Portrait from 8 Oct 2015, at another recording session with Ware Tinane.
