Abstract

Description

Genre: Medicine/huru. Mina Bai, a grandmother from kampung and domain Cu'a, tells about her 'huru wa merene' (huru headache). This is a less dettailed narrative compared to her 'huru ci'i, which is fully translated. Symptoms: headache, like the brain swelling. Cure: apply chewed areca nut and betel pepper, mixed with 'waju' tree to the forehead. Some 'bulu wa'o'. The cure uses a masticated mixture of betel-pepper, areca-nut, lime, and 'waju' (BI. waru landak) chewed together, after which the mixture is applied to the forehead, spitting ('ngiru'). Mina doesn't mention any curse to this 'huru', as Pidhu asks. The symptoms appear from "wind"; somebody else's curse or just a "normal" disesase. Recorded 6 June -16 by Pidhu Sophune using the AT2020 microphone. With Mama Toji.
