Abstract

Description

Genre: Medicine/huru. Mina Bae, a grandmother from kampung/domain Cu'a, tells about her 'huru ci'i', that she inherited from her grandmother/father through her parents, back to a man called Sundu Pa'ene, a name that indicates that he mastered ritual speech; Pa'e (told in recording item SD-202). Mina protects her coconut trees with this 'huru'-curse. When people are affected after stealing, they come to her to ask for the cure: chewed areca nut and piper betel and long grass, applied around the navel and the lower back bone. With a simple utterance. The patient must pay 'peju', otherwise the disease can return. Then Mina 'siko', touches the patient with a steamed rice roll, and throws it away with the disease (toward the setting sun usually). Recorded 6 June -16 by Pidhu Sophune using the AT2020 microphone. With Mama Toji, another granny.
