dc.description.abstract The purpose of this paper is to analyze the use of television commercials and newspaper advertisements by the incumbent mayor (Democrat Eileen Anderson) and the Republican candidate (the former mayor Frank F. Fasi) in the 1984 campaign for mayor for the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. A careful examination of the contents in the campaign ads of both candidates will be used to expose and illustrate the development of each campaign's communication strategy with it's own messages, objectives, and directions.
