Series 3: Pacific Island Judiciary Development

This series contains information on various Pacific Islands and Islanders that Jon Van Dyke worked with to advocate for their territorial rights, sovereignties and judicial development. The Islands include Christmas Island (Kiribati), Federated States of Micronesia, Johnston/Kalama Atoll, Kermadecs and New Zealand, Kosrae, Minerva, Tonga, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). The islanders include Maori and Victor Uherbelau (Palau). The series also contains government documents such as the Constitutional Law of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Seminar Materials, Fisheries Regulations, FSM - Compact of Free Association, FSM Constitution, FSM Fishing Laws, Palau Constitutional Development and the Second Palau Constitutional Convention.

Documents arising from specific legal cases, issues and projects are included, such as Court Filed Documents relating to Chuuk, International Ocean Law, International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Kosrae Cases, Kosrae-Term Limits - Gerson Jackson, Maori (indigenous Ocean Law), Murton Declaration, New Caledonia - Self Determination, Nuclear French Polynesia, Nuclear Waste in the South Pacific, Palau-Chin Case, Permit Applications - Feb. 1995, South Pacific Nuclear Treaty, The Angaur Case, USS San Francisco 1-8-05 (FSM).

There are teaching and research regarding Equal Rights, FSM Judicial Seminars; the FSM Constitution, Pacific Island Legal Systems Course Materials and Pacific Maps. There are also papers from Jon’s participation in the Joy Island Conference for Micronesian and the South Pacific Judicial Conference. Other materials cover the Bering Sea, the Caspian Sea, maps of uninhabited Islands, the Uninhabited Islands/Sea Grant Quarterly, Im Thurn Further Papers and Im Thurn Land Despatch.
