Item type: Item , Building Digital Resilience in Major Shocks: How Ukrainian Organizations Enact Digital Transformation in Times of War(2024-01-03) Berbyuk Lindström, Nataliya; Razmerita, Liana; Prokopenko, Serhii; Popovych, NataliyaLimited IS research is available on digital transformation (DT) and digital resilience in major shocks. Drawing on Boh et al. (2023) digital resilience framework and using the case of Ukrainian organizations operating during the war, we explore how DT is enacted to build digital resilience. Analysis of 40 interviews with the Ukrainian managers shows that DT unfolds emergently to ensure organizational survival, involving the integration of social media and messaging in work practices to ensure continuous contact, morale support, and decision-making. Re-adapting remote work practices from the pandemic, handling infrastructure damages, enhancing cybersecurity protection, and developing new online services to reach out to customers are key strategies that contributed to building digital resilience. Further, volunteering and donating to the army contribute to community feelings, pivotal for building resilience in war. The study provides suggestions for extending the digital resilience framework and offers insights for managing organizations in times of major shocks.Item type: Item , Sparking Inter-usability: How Can Instructors Align Learning Management Systems within Online Learning Ecosystems?(2024-01-03) Pang, Feifei; Grace, Rob; Ponnakanti, Hari Priya; Lee, Kijung; Kropczynski, JessDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, global higher education institutions turned to learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas for emergency online teaching. However, existing studies have focused on the usability of individual LMS applications rather than their inter-usability with other technologies. This study, therefore, examines the inter-usability of Canvas from the perspective of faculty who used it alongside other technologies to cope with the pandemic. Results show that issues of continuity, consistency, and composition limited the inter-usability of Canvas when supporting the transition from in-person to online instruction. Based on these findings, the study identifies specific design implications that can improve the inter-usability of Canvas and other LMS by aligning them within the ecosystem of applications and devices demanded by contemporary in-person and online education during periods of stability and crisis.Item type: Item , Pandemic as Digital Change Accelerator: Sustainable Reshaping of Adult Education Post Covid-19(2024-01-03) Sofkova Hashemi, Sylvana; Berbyuk Lindström, Nataliya; Bergdahl, NinaThis multi-case study examines the educational change in municipal adult education (MAEd), during and directly after the Covid-19 pandemic. Applying Fullan’s educational change perspective, we analyze teachers’ professional development in terms of evolving materials, changing pedagogies, and altered beliefs about teaching and learning. Data were collected in 2020-2022 from questionnaires, interviews, and question-answer sessions with MAEd teachers (n=140) from the three largest cities in Sweden. The findings demonstrate a pronounced exploration of disparate learning theories, growing recognition of online and hybrid modes of education delivery, remediation of materials, and raised attention to teaching quality and design with clarity and structure. Besides signs of professional development, the study provides empirical evidence for institutional adaptation to respond to crisis, learn from experiences, and emerge prepared for future challenges. Conclusively, the study findings indicate that sustainable reshaping of MAEd requires proactive and strategic leadership that aligns with policy and national directives and grassroots initiatives.Item type: Item , Introduction to the Minitrack on Technological, Educational, and Organizational Impacts of Global Crises(2024-01-03) Abujarour, Safa'A; Ajjan, Haya; Fedorowicz, Jane; Owens, Dawn
