Item type: Item , Internationalization of indoor positioning platform firms: Insights from loose coupling theory(2024-01-03) Ojala, Arto; Fraccastoro, Sara; Gabrielsson, MikaIndoor positioning platforms are gaining popularity in various indoor environments, serving multiple purposes such as navigation, asset tracking, proximity marketing, and indoor analytics. However, the diversity of potential use cases and technical complexity makes these platforms challenging to internationalize across different markets and customer segments. Drawing on the characteristics of digitalization framework and the loose coupling theory, we analyze and explain the phenomenon in an indoor positioning platform firm. Our findings reveal that platforms’ openness and digital affordances played a pivotal role in its internationalization by enabling customization of the service to meet the needs of foreign markets and industry segments. Both loose and tight couplings were essential for the platform's global expansion. We also revealed the dynamic nature of couplings in the firm's internationalization journey.Item type: Item , Beyond Boundaries: Empowering Family SMEs' International Growth through Digital Platforms' Architecture and Governanc(2024-01-03) Hoang, Ton Nu Huong Giang; Teo, Hock Hai; Nguyen, Thi Phuong Quyen; Hoang, HuongExporting to multiple countries can help family SMEs achieve growth through economies of scale. However, they frequently encounter difficulties when exporting to multiple countries due to their lack of managerial expertise and international experience. Although forming relationships with partners in foreign markets can provide access to new knowledge that facilitates their international growth, they may avoid forming such relationships to protect their socio-emotional wealth (SEW). Therefore, it is crucial for family SMEs to establish network relationships that can support their international expansion while also safeguarding their SEW. While Digital Platforms have the potential to facilitate family SMEs' internationalization and preserve their SEW, there is limited research on which characteristics of digital platforms can effectively enable internationalization processes in family SMEs. Thus, we propose a research model that describes how digital platforms with effective modular architecture and governance mechanisms can act as strategic partners in facilitating family SMEs’ internationalization process while also safeguarding their SEW.Item type: Item , Introduction to the Minitrack on Global Digital Business(2024-01-03) Gabrielsson, Mika; Ojala, Arto; Fraccastoro, Sara
