Abstract

Description

David Ka‘awa Hewahewa was born in Kailua, O‘ahu in 1961. He enjoyed playing football as a youth which eventually played a large role in his decision to go to Lahainaluna. He attended Lahainaluna from 1977-1980, where he played sports and discovered his love for agriculture. He speaks about his time in Lahaina spent with friends and coaches, eventually graduating high school and moving into the work force, getting married and working as a Contractor while supporting his family. He moved to O‘ahu, but ended up back in Maui where he now stewards ‘āina with his sons. David Hewahewa speaks to his experiences as a boarder at Lahainaluna, and how they fundamentally shaped him, and how those experiences impacted his life trajectory.
