Abstract

In the process of rapid urbanization, the development of cities gradually changes from the era of urban expansion to the period of inventory planning, and the regeneration of traditional cities gradually changes from single-dimensional renewal to multi-dimensional regeneration. Conventional commercial and residential spaces in old cities have diversified spatial characteristics and flexible, functional advantages. However, many of them lack reasonable protection. Generally, they have backward environmental conditions, which cannot meet the dynamic needs of residents, and many newly built commercial areas have homogenization problems. Therefore, this research aims to develop and optimize the traditional commercial and residential model in urban regeneration, so that it can keep the balance of the two functions, inherit local culture, and respond to the local climate. Meanwhile, this research takes Shanghai Youchewan street design as an example to explore the adaptive regeneration strategies of the commercial and residential complex space in the old district. The research is mainly divided into six chapters: The first two chapters are basic research on the scope of research (old city regeneration), the research object (commercial and residential space complex mode), the current development status, advantages, and problems. It also summarizes that the essence of commercial and residential space complex mode is the balance and coordination of public and private urban space. The third chapter selects relevant cases in China and abroad. It conducts vital case studies at two scales, including regional and architectural levels, to summarize four commercial and residential space complex modes design elements, including the relationship between architecture and urban environment, streamline organization, composite space, and bioclimatic. Chapter 4 proposes design principles of interactivity, flexibility, benefit, and sustainability based on the above key design elements, and specifies design strategies and methods for the composite mode of commercial and residential spaces in urban regeneration through a large number of case studies. Chapter 5 takes the design of Shanghai Youchewan street as a practical case to verify the feasibility of the design strategies and methods. The first is to enhance the interaction between the site and the city. Two different commercial and residential space composite modes are identified according to the surrounding environment. Secondly, corresponding structural design strategies and unit organization methods are adopted for different types of composite modes. Thirdly, the design is based on the biological climate, such as the overall layout and orientation of buildings, the design of building forms, the integrated design of building skins, and the selection and application of low-carbon materials. By exploring design strategies of composite modes of commercial and residential space in urban regeneration and verifying them through empirical research, this research proposes a more systematic solution and puts forward some thoughts for the practical and theoretical research of the sustainable development of composite modes of commercial, residential space.
