In the intellectual, political and cultural relationships between the West and Hawai'i, there consistently have been a one-way discourse of political mythmaking. The Hawaiians get reduced demographically, culturally and morally, while the Westerner get elevated in these areas. I will posit that Hawaiian loss of land, resources and sovereignty all started when the West usurped self-representation of the Hawaiians, not when they got usurped militarily, economically nor politically. Usurpation of the Hawaiians' self-representation meant for the West a windfall profit of all of their resources.
