Abstract

"This study was performed to determine the economic and technical feasibility of combining renewable energy and water resources development in Hawaii. The study included a general overview of water needs and the use of renewable energy technologies on all the islands. The main emphasis of the study, however, was to evaluate the feasibility of using excess off-peak geothermal energy on the island of Hawaii to develop the water resources on that island. Several potential integrated water/renewable energy projects were identified, and two projects were selected for conceptual planning. The project findings are summarized in Section S.1. Conclusions reached based on the study and recommendations for further actions are presented in Sections S.2 and S.3, respectively."
