Abstract

The global shift in economic and technological power and orientation to the Pacific is the most important force affecting our region. Information has become such a critical element for business, government, development and academic institutions that it has come to be recognized as a valuable commodity and must be transported to locations where it is used. For education and development purposes, network connectivity in the Pacific Islands should include access to interactive data bases by remote academic institutions in the Pacific. (1988 Hawaii State Legislature). This PEACESAT, PICHTR, University of Hawaii Library Pilot Project is an attempt at providing this access.
