dc.description.abstract The present on-going study represents a major effort to evaluate the essentially unique environmental considerations retuired for the safe disposal of dredge spoil in deep, near shore, coastal waters. The present report presents the results of the second part (B) of the project which addresses the actual dumping operation and includes monitoring of the distribution of the spoil in the water column on the bottom and its immediate effects on the biota. The collection and analysis of samples taken during and immediately following the disposal of dredge spoil, 2 ½ miles south of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii, indicate minimal environmental impact and modification to the water column, biota, and geology of the dredge spoil disposal site.
