dc.descriptionThis study is an LIS thesis in progress. The multi-disciplinary study is performing a gap analysis via the use of several botanical databases and prior literature in order to determine the representativeness and holdings of four rare, ethnobotanically and bioculturally valued single-island plant species endemic to Kauaʻi island within global botanical institutions. The gap analysis is a demonstrated method to effectively evaluate and ensure comprehensive representation of rare species’ genetic diversity in the collections of botanical institutions. The study will aid in the development of strategies to ensure effective curation of these species, their physical holdings and associated metadata.
