dc.description.abstract A year and a half ago, the thesis component of the Honors Program was explained to the Juniors. We were asked to consider it as a block of time in which we could experiment, in depth, with an idea that we might delay until later years. Up to this time, language had always been a major source of interest of mine although I had attempted little creative writing. Coinciding with this explanation was an introduction to fine pieces of children's literature. I was struck by the simplicity and depth of appeal expressed in these pieces. At the close of the introduction, the professor remarked that perhaps one of us might become a writer of children's books. The suggestion was intriguing and challenging so I decided that I would like to write a children's book for my Honors thesis.
