Relocating to Waikiki, Oahu, he describes work as a chauffeur for the Cookes, bartender for brother Sam's Smile Cafe, and cook for Kau-Kau Korner. He explains the effects of World War II on island eateries. Also discussed are his own businesses, Ilima Drive Inn, Aiea Drive Inn, and Ilima Restaurant and Catering.
