Abstract

Brief excerpt from interview: I do think that the place-based part of it . . . makes it far more relevant . . . One of the virtues of coming to campus is that you're generally familiar with the campus . . . I want [students] to go to places that are a little out of their comfort zone . . . you need to be able to go outside of your comfort zone and investigate, ask why—asking why can be very uncomfortable.

Description

This item includes a segment of an instructor interview in a Writing Intensive course in Journalism at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The interview was conducted in 2013, and in this clip the interviewee is responding to the question 'If relevant, can you compare student writing performances with WI courses you have taught that are NOT place-based/inflected?'
