dcterms.abstractPurpose: The purpose of this project is to address the lack of a compliance program in thisoutpatient clinic by implementing a standardized HIPAA program to ensure consistent compliance, safety, and privacy. Background: The current practice does not have a HIPAA compliance program. It is important for healthcare organizations to achieve and maintain HIPAA compliance to avoid potential legal and financial consequences and to protect the privacy and security of personal health information. Methods: An initial educational needs assessment was performed with staff to identify areas for inclusion in the HIPAA training modules. Data was collected using a pre-HIPAA knowledge survey, post HIPAA knowledge survey and quiz, pre-and-post audit checklist, and tracking of the compliance program with an Excel sheet. Results: Qualitative analysis of the project outcomes indicated a notable improvement in participants' confidence level and knowledge regarding HIPAA compliance. The pre-assessment survey served as a baseline measure, showcasing the existing understanding of the staff before the educational intervention. Subsequently, the post-assessment survey and knowledge quiz demonstrated a statistically significant increase in confidence and knowledge. Conclusion: The positive outcomes, as evidenced by the substantial improvement in staff confidence and knowledge scores, indicate a successful intervention in achieving the intended goal of enhancing HIPAA compliance within the organization. Recommendation: Moving forward, sustained efforts in education, a formal policy with annual reviews, and innovative approaches to ensure ongoing compliance will be essential for continued success.
