dc.description | Genre: Medicine/huru. Bhaso Nonane, a grandfather from kampong Welu tethu, Uwa, tells about his 'huru nau' (huru sugar palm). The sign/curse hung among the fruit trees is a human doll made from sugar palm (enau) fiber. Symptom: head ache/dizziness (BI. pusing), mentioned in the other file, 'huru pothi'. The cure uses an unnamed tree root, or more than one, that his parents taught him. Chewed with areca nut, piper betel and lime (unmentioned here), then applied. No 'bhulu wa'o' mentioned. Bhaso's three 'huru' are hung in fruit trees as signs, charged with curses, that protect them (also by scaring people). Symptoms and cures are very similar in the trree hurus. Symptoms: 'Wa mere'. headache, dizzyness. The ingredients in the cure mentioned in another file about Bhaso's 'huru': "root things" – different roots. Dig up 'tina' once, seven small gingers. See the other two files as well. The roots are chewed with areca nut, piper betel and lime and then the mixture is spit/put on the head of the afflicted person. Recorded by Pidhu Sophune (Ebbe), using that troublesome AT Lavelier mic (loud, poor settings), at Bhaso's house late in the morning. Picture of the sugar palm fibre doll. | |
