Description:Genre: Fairy tale. Title: Ro'a no'o Hiu (Monkey and Shark). Wera Ngange (b. c. 1943), kampong Hoka, Ndeo, is known as a fun storyteller. In the past, when Ratu (HR) was still a child he remembered how Wera used to tell the kids fantastic and funny tales in evenings when the moon was big and shining brightly. Indeed, Wera is an enthusiastic story teller; his stories are good fun and fantastic, with lots of events and unexpected turns. Both in this one, "Shark and Monkey", and in the other, Sinyo Welen. In "Shark and Monkey" the shark community and the monkey community are enemies, friends again, and then enemies again. Recorded 2 Dec -14 by SD and HR before noon in Wilhelmus Wera's house sitting on the balai-balai ('woga'), the three of us, and Ware and two neighbours. It was a relaxed session. We also had lunch there, and a shot of arak, prepared by Wera's wife. Listen also to the fantastic tale Sinyo Welen (SD1-009). See portrait in SD1-009
