Abstract
Walking intensity measured metabolically to determine step rate recommendations in adults has been well studied (13, 21, 25). Initial step rate recommendations for youth have been established without investigating physiological response at those step rates (11). Based on these limitations the primary purpose of the study is to determine age-adjusted metabolic equivalent (A-AME) (12) by simultaneously measured VO2 via indirect calorimetry and steps per minute to determine step per minute recommendations for youth.
