Department of Anthropology
Permanent URI for this community
At the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, the Department of Anthropology is strongly committed to critical inquiry, advocacy and educational outreach. We pursue comparative and holistic studies of human communities, past and present, using diverse methods including material, biological and cultural analysis.
We are the leading department of anthropology in Hawai'i, the Pacific, and Asia with full subfield offerings in archaeology, cultural anthropology, and physical anthropology along with specializations in applied archaeology, ecology, discursive practices, and medical anthropology. There are more than 30 faculty on the Mānoa campus who specialize in anthropology. Our work cuts across geographic and temporal boundaries to understand historical relationships between human communities and their environments as well as the social, cultural, and political dynamics of contemporary societies.
