COVID-19 times as experienced in Japan

Permanent URI for this collection

In late May 2020, we announced a call for images, for photos taken of work and life in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our intent for collecting these images is to convey a sense of daily Japan from the ground during the stay-at-home directive and after the emergency declaration status was lifted. The images are accompanied by captions and alternative text (for web accessibility) in a spreadsheet located here.

No permission is necessary if photos are used for non-commercial educational purposes such as use of the photos in class lectures, students’ presentations, and academic conference presentations.

The images and text provided by contributors are open access and available for common use under Creative Commons 2.0 for non-commercial use.

Please credit the photos with the following sentence: "From the 'COVID-19 times as experienced in Japan' photo collection, courtesy of UH Mānoa Center for Japanese Studies” and the contributor's information found in the provided spreadsheet.

If the photos are planned to be used in books, newspapers, documentaries, films, or other forms of media and print, the users must complete and submit this request form.
