Rebecca Stotzer (M.S.W., Ph.D.) is an Associate Professor and the Director of Distance Education at the University of Hawaii Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work. Dr. Stotzer received her M.S.W., M.A., and Ph.D. in the combined social work/psychology program at the University of Michigan, and did post-doctoral work as a 2006-2007 Policy Fellow at the Williams Institute in the UCLA School of Law. Her primary areas of research expertise are in discrimination, prejudice-motivated crime, stigma, and issues impacting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities.

ItemLGBTQI Hawai‘i: A Needs Assessment of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Communities in the State of Hawai‘i, Preliminary Findings(University of Hawai'i, Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work, 2013)Although the State has passed many progressive policies related to LGBTQI people, such as bias crime protections, anti-discrimination laws, and civil unions, little data is available about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and Intersex communities in Hawai‘i. This report outlines the preliminary findings of the LGBTQI Hawai‘i Needs Assessment conducted in the summer of 2013, the largest ever conducted in the State of Hawai‘i. Further reports will outline difference by county, by sex/gender identity, and by sexual orientation, but these preliminary findings provide a strong overview of the LGBTQI community in Hawai‘i.
