Benjamin Villiarimo was born in 1963 on Maui, where he was raised. He learned the importance of family values, resource management, respect, and reciprocity along the coastlines of Wānanalua as he learned to gather limu from his father and grandparents growing up. As an adult working as a chef, Ben explored the many culinary and cultural uses of limu, and now he dedicates his time to the conservation of limu and teaching the next generation about traditional gathering practices. He is an active member in the Limu Hui and continues to be involved in conservation efforts on Maui.
