Shirley Ann Pualani Cho Kauhaihao "Aunty Shirley" is a life-long resident of Hōnaunau, Kona. She was born in Kealakekua in the Kona Hospital and spent the first eight years of her life living at Kealia beach. At eight years old, she moved up mauka to her grandparents' property in Keʻei. She attended Hoʻokena School, Hōnaunau School, and eventually graduated from Konawaena. Aunty Shirley is on the Board of the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden and is the Co-Director and founder of Hoʻoulu ka ʻUlu, a project to revitalize breadfruit as a nutritious, abundant, affordable, and culturally appropriate food. She is well known in the community as a master weaver and member of Ka Ulu Lauhala 'o Kona. She is also the lead organizer for the cleanup of graffiti along Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway in South Kohala.
