dc.description | Sherman Kealoha Maka is a kupa of Hā‘ena, Halele‘a, Kaua‘i. He was born in 1961, and raised in Hā‘ena with his family where they fished and farmed for a living. He is a descendant of the famous Maka Trio, which fostered his love of Hawaiian music and hula. Sherman attended Lahainaluna for the last two years of his high school career, where he participated in the Hawaiiana club there, along with various jobs and responsibilities. He recalls fondly of his kumu at Lahainaluna that taught him invaluable lessons in and outside of the classroom; in the field, and in the Hawaiiana club and Boarder’s chorus. Sherman attributes his experiences at Lahainaluna to his life’s path and career choices, and an experience that brought him closer to his own hometown of Hā‘ena. | |
