Abstract

Remittances from overseasFilipino workers and permanent migrants support their families left behind in the Philippines and help drive the Philippine economy. The Philippine Central Bank estimates remittances in 2007 to be at US$14.44 billion (BSP 2007). This does not include remittances sent through informal channels, such as hand-to- hand deliveries or carrying cash on return visits to the Philippines.
