Abstract

One of the rainiest places on earth is atop Mount Waialeale on the island of Kauai; average annual rainfall in this 20-square-mile swamp area exceeds 200 inches, and more than twice that amount has been recorded. Various hydrologic characteristics of the area, including typology, vegetation, soils, rainfall, and streamflow, are detailed.
