Abstract
Description
Legario “Hanky” Eharis was born and raised in Hāna, Maui. His parents both worked for the park. His father was part of an archaeological team in Kīpahulu, and his mother worked in the interpretation division. He would often visit the park as a child; however, his first involvement with Haleakalā National Park began when he was sixteen years old as a member of the Young Adult Conservation Corps (YACC). Soon after, he was hired as a seasonal worker. Over the years, Hanky has held many positions within the park including in the maintenance division, resource management, and as a member of the fence crew.
