dc.description.abstract | The kukui, introduced by Polynesian voyagers, was a multi-use plant for the early Hawaiians. After the Western discovery of the islands, kukui oil became an export commodity, with 8-10 thousand gallons exported annually in the 1840s. The authors considered the existing and potential market for the oil and speculated on potential yields. Chemical analysis of the oil and kernel was reported. | |
