After Preston's second rendition of the song, Nately swept into the one-bedroom . apartment and brained him with the wooden plank he kept behind his bed. Preston dropped, adding his deadweight to the groaning floorboards. His legs flopped for a minute before stilling. The microphone thumped onto the rotting floor and rolled off into a comer, herding fleeing cockroaches toward the plaster wall.
