Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) is currently nearing completion of a 25 MW geothermal power plant located in the Puna District on the Big Island of Hawaii. PGV drilling activities commenced in November, 1990. The drilling activities completed to date include the completion of production well KS-3, the drilling of KS-7, and the rework of KS-lA (Figure 1). KS-7 was drilled as an injection well but was suspended prior to completion due to a high pressure zone which was encountered at the relative! y shallow depth of 1678'. Geothermal well KS-8 was the third new well to be started by PGV as part of the well field development to supply steam to the PGV power plant.
