dc.description.abstract | This story and the other oral traditions from the island of Uripiv that are featured in this issue of The Contemporary Pacific were recorded in the vernacular by Ross McKerras, transcribed by Numa Longga and Sanita Kenneth, and translated into English by Sethy and Ralph Regenvanu. The stories were first printed in The Story of the Eel and Other Stories from Uripiv Island, Vanuatu, published in 2004 by the Vanuatu Cultural Centre, Port Vila, and are reproduced here, in slightly edited form, with the permission of the Vanuatu National Cultural Council. | |
