Hamlet: At The Globe

Abstract

In 1599, when the Globe Theater was built, the Lord Chamberlain's Hen achieved a permanent home for their public performances; it was an impressive building and justly called "the glory of the bankside." Quite a bit is known about the physical construction of this playhouse, thanks to surviving descriptions and old maps of London, but, in comparison to the immense amount of work that has been done concerning the characterization, plotting, imagery, story elements, and style of Shakespeare's plays, relatively little scholarship has been devoted to the presentation of the plays and to general Elizabethan stage techniques.
