Abstract
Description
Genre: Medicine/huru. Mama Ndasa, kampong Wolo meko, Maluriwu, explains her 'huru kota'. She tells both the curse, the sign that is hung in a tree (see also pictures of how it is made), and the cure of the symptom, 'huru', which is to 'ngiru' with betel (sirih pinang) and the other ingredients. The sign is a lontar container, where she puts 'hule kera' leaf, banana leaf (they use banana plantation as example) and soil below, and then she covers with soil again and covers with a tool (of lontar, used in making boats). And pierces the thing with a sugarpalm/thorn/branch. The box is later burnt, to speed up the process after somebody has stolen fruits. The cure also uses a plaited, coconut leaf, box. It isnput on the floor somewhere, carefully. Five paddy grains are put on the belly. Symptoms: stomach ache/swollen. Then the "talk", bhulu wa'o prayer, and the payment from the patient ('peju', 'cega'). Recorded by Pidu Sophune (Ebbe) 1 Nov 2015 outside her home at around 8 am in the morning with the AT Lavalier mic.
