Little or nothing of the different ethnic groups we have here in Hawaii is included in the curriculum, The richness of the numer­ous cultural traditions that exist here is not made available and real to the children. Somehow this void needs to be filled. Fortunately, Ethnic Studies classes are being developed in second­ ary schools here, but nothing is available at the primary school level. In high school Ethnic Studies classes, interest is on the political aspect; however, I would like to expand on the cultural aspects at the primary school level. The intent is to go beyond ethnic songs and dances on May Day or school assemblies and other isolated experiences.
