Cell size measurement is used as an indicator in early diagnosis of cancer. This research is based on developing a non-invasive, optical system to detect dysplasia in mucosal tissues; this is achieved by analysis of the reflectance or transmittance spectrum to determine the mutated cells' sizes. The collected spectrum contains information about the cell's internal structure. To decode this information, an optical cell model was formulated to create a custom mother wavelet to be used to deconvolve the absorption and light scattering components of the collected spectra. Finally, the previous results are fitted to different models for prediction, of cell sizes and the results with the least error are presented as a Gaussian distribution.en-USAll UHM dissertations and theses are protected by copyright.
