Maeda, Linda2014-01-152014-01-152014-01-15http://hdl.handle.net/10125/31517From an American literature assignment in which I contrasted two adolescent heroes, I wondered how one might effectively teach a particular set of novels all of which have adolescent heroes. The set I chose consists of eight American novels, written by eight differing American authors, and having different settings in both time and place. The theme chosen is the problem of how the adolescent's adjustment to "evil" influences his relationships with others. This theme would act as a point of focus for the study, and so allow students to compare and contrast the books rather than read each in isolation. Not only will the study provide some insight into the universality of literary content, but the novels themselves and the focus of attention have inherent interest for the high school student.55 pagesAll UHM Honors Projects are protected by copyright.
