The set I chose consists of eight American novels, written by eight differing American authors, and having different settings in both time and place. The theme chosen is the problem of how the adolescent's adjustment to "evil" influences his relationships with others. This theme would act as a point of focus for the study, and so allow students to compare and contrast the books rather than read each in isolation.
