Ya mbai nekhatemo bha, aye mbai unga falei hubhaikokhe.

ya  mbai  nekh-ate-mo- bha, aye mbai  unga-falei hubhai-ko-khe

Once upon a time, there is a bird who finds a hat

Na unga falei rokhe, na falem randa rafikhe hirekokhe.

na-unga-falei ro-khe, na- falem randa rafi-khe hireko-khe

He takes the hat and puts it on his head


3 Anwaw mbai na mekhemo, na kahilire hubhaikokhete.

anwaw mbai na me-khe-mo, na kahili-re hubaiko- khe-te

When he comes to a certain place, he meets his friend

Nai kahili nare jokho rekhe bhe, nehebi na re hele harewekhe

nai kahili nare jokho re-khe -bhe, nehebi na re hele hare-we-khe

When his friend looks at him she really feels funny, and laughs at him.


5 Na re mo re mo harewekhe hineweunge

na re mo- re mo hare-we-khe hinueweu-nge

While laughing, she asks him


6 “Makha wa falem randa rafikhe, hagui emha wanem ba, re hare sareimo mokhoye.”

makha wa falem randa rafi-khe, haguii emha wanem ba, re-hare-sareimo mokho-ye

"What is that on your head? It looks funny, and just makes me laugh"


7 Na kahili nare remo harewekhe ne, hokholo  nehebi nai khena mehi hele folokokhe.

na kahili  na-re re-mo hare-wekhe, hokholo nehebi nai khena mehi hele foloko-khe

Because his friend laughs at him, he feels strange and sad


8 Nabe unga falei rokhe  nebene wokhe nehebi hakhagokhe.

nabe unga - falei ro-khe ne-be-ne wokhe nehebi hakhago-khe

He takes the hat and throws it down in front of his friend, and he runs away


9 Hokholo hakabokhe bhetamobhe, na kahili nabe unga falei rokhe nei fale re imokhogokhe.

hokholo hakabo-khe bheta-mo-bhe, na kahili nabe unga-falei rokhe nei fale-re imokhogo-khe

After he runs away, his friend takes the hat and makes her nest with that hat


10 Nekhate nekhatemo, ya mbai, hokolo anggei borokhe be,

nekhate - nekhate-mo, ya mbai, hokholo anggei boro-ke be

After some days, he hears that


11 Na kahili nabe unga falei wokhe kiye rokhe na falere mokhogokhe.

na-kahili nabe unga- falei wo-khe-kiye ro-khe na fale-re mokogo-khe

His friend has taken the hat that he threw awat, and made her nest with it


12 Hokholo nehebi ikhele bhe yegokhe ya

hokholo nehebi ikhele - bhe yego-khe ya

Suddenly, hearing this, he becomes angry


13 Nai kahili anuaure mekhemo weunge

nai kahili anuau-re me-khe-mo weu-nge

So he goes to his friend's place and says


14 "Hai, wie nabe unga falei arene rare rebhe haroewekhe-yea. Makhane rokhe wa fale re  mokhogokhe, ehn?"

hai, wie nabe unga-falei are-ne ra-re  re-bhe haroewe-khe- yea. makhane ro-khe wai fale-re mokhogo-khe, ehn

"Hi, you laughed at me because of that hat, so why did you take it and make your nest with it?"


15 Na kahili ye weunge, “re karo mbambhe harewekhale ye, makahane hakhagokea?".

na kahili ye-weunge, re karo mbambhe harewekha-le- ye, makhane hakhago-kea

His friend says to him,  "I was just laughing because it was funny; why did you run away?


16 Rakha unga falei, ana wokheane rokhaleye;

rakha unga-falei, ana wokhe-ne rokha-le -ye

Since you threw your hat down, I took it


17 Wa roeyerenwea roweibhe, wai hambung mbambe."

wa roewe-ye-re-na rowei-bhe, wai hambung mbambe

Anyway, this thing is still yours; if you want it back, you can take it."


18 Hokolo nabe unga falei nehebi rokhemo, nafalem randa hobenobokhe.

hokholo na-be unga-falei nehebi ro-khe-mo, na-falem randa hobeno-bokhe

He takes the hat right away, and puts it on his head


19 Na unga falei nafalemre hobenobokebe,

na unga-falei na-falem-re hobeno-bhoke-bhe

When he puts the hat on his head,


20 Nai falem randa aye kelu metuekhemo wenge,

nai falem randa aye kelu metue-khe-mo weu-nge

Suddenly a baby  bird jumps out from the hat and says to him


21 "Ana wa makhaye mokhoye?"

ana wa makha-ye mokho-ye

"Mommy, what are you doing?"
