Abstract
This systematic action research study explores the impact of field trips in a semester long marine science course. The study involves “at risk” students and emphasizes their involvement as “hands on” scientists collecting and analyzing data in the field. Findings indicated that the students gained an increased understanding of science concepts as well as more confidence and motivation as learners.
