This e-poster represents our first opportunity to demonstrate in an interactive, public forum the new and improved Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America (AILLA), a digital online repository for language documentation data relevant to the indigenous languages of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Southwestern United States. AILLA first launched its dual-language (English and Spanish) web portals in 2001. The bespoke software, which was made up of a relational database, a server, and PHP and MySQL scripts, was sophisticated for its time, and served the needs of AILLA’s users and depositors for the next fifteen years. However, by 2011 it was clear that the AILLA site, which was once sleek and cutting edge, was now completely out of date and clunky. In January 2015, after several years of research, fundraising, and paperwork, the AILLA staff began a two-year project to migrate the digital archival holdings from the outdated system into a contemporary digital repository. The new AILLA consists of three components, all of which are open source: Islandora (a Drupal-based user interface) stacked on Fedora Commons (a digital repository) with search and discovery provided by Apache SOLR (an indexing and search engine). The new English and Spanish user interfaces are scheduled to launch during the fall semester of 2016. Additionally, the new AILLA system will include a set of self-deposit tools that will allow anyone interested in depositing their data with AILLA to do so according to their own timeline. After establishing their depositor credentials with AILLA, they can use simple Islandora forms to submit media files directly to the archive. These self-deposit tools will launch during the spring semester of 2017. In this e-poster, we will demonstrate how to navigate and search the new AILLA system and how to switch between the Spanish and English portals. We will also explain the self-deposit procedures and demonstrate the self-deposit tools.
