Abstract

We introduce a broadcast signaling method on two-connected subnetworks for Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) networks, which we refer to as Broadcast On A Subgraph (BOAS). The signaling in WDM networks protection much be accomplished within very tight time constraints. The usual protection strategy for lightpaths in a WDM network requires one signaling channel per fiber-link. This may require too much bandwidth and cost for large scaled physical networks. Our method considers broadcasts of fault notifications on two-connected subnetworks to reduce queuing delay and bandwidth requirements. Our results show that the BOAS method can decrease the cost of signaling on the majoring of networks.
