Abstract
The idea for this study originated with the writer's concern over both student attitudes toward writing and student written performance. From the observation of upper elementary school students and the examination of their writings, this writer recognized that many students disliked writing and found it difficult and frastrating. The possibility that the student's difficulties in writing may never be alleviated, may cause the child to develop negative attitudes toward writing which may continue throughout his formal education and adult life. This can present a serious problem. What can be done to help students with their written communication? The use of oral communication has been' suggested as one of several answers.
