Abstract

Brief excerpt from interview: When reflecting on my personal culture, with Filipinos, I've observed positive characteristics within the Filipino culture, but also the negative characteristics. Although I do want to reflect a positive view of the Filipino culture, there are some not-so positive characteristics. I think that benefits me. Working on my honesty, and being able to reflect, through this paper, allowed me to gain different perspectives of the Filipino culture. Just knowing that I had some negative viewpoints, thinking how my family or my friends within that community would possibly think about what I say... it affected me a little bit. Knowing that there's a confidentiality there helped... to pull out those more honest feedbacks. [Prof. Gasiorekʻs] comments were able to provide me more guidance toward reflecting more about these thoughts, because... in some instances they're a little vague, but guiding me towards the right directions allowed me to think about these things more clearly.
