Abstract
This thesis is a synthesis of the historical, analytical, and performance preparations and procedures for three selected musical works, leading to the performance of a clarinet Honors Recital. In addition, this paper will discuss as an introduction, the development of the clarinet from its origins as a primitive reed instrument, through history, to its present day configuration. The recital was held on May 2, 1977, in Mae Zenke Orvis Auditorium, at the University of Hawaii, Manoa campus, in partial fulfillment for the requirements of the Honors Program.
