Manulani Aluli Meyer is from Mokapu and Kailua, Oʻahu. They are known for their work in the field of Hawaiian epistemology, authoring the book, Hoʻoulu: Our Time of Becoming (2003). After receiving their doctorate in Philosophy of Education from Harvard, they returned home to work at UH Hilo before going to Aotearoa to help design He Waka Hiringa, a Masters program in Applied Indigenous Knowledge at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, a Maori university. Currently they are the Konohiki for the Hawaiian Place of Learning office at UH West Oʻahu.
